Bylaws & Policies

Bylaws are laws created by the City. They are enforced by Bylaw Enforcement Officers, Peace Officers, and Development Officers. Bylaws in Alberta are generally created under the authority of the Municipal Government Act.

To pass a bylaw, Council must give three readings (three separate approvals) at Council meetings. The public is encouraged to provide input into this process.

Policies provide overarching standards for decision making and operations within local government. They help an organization operate consistently.

Policies are approved by Council.
