Mayor Thalia Hibbs has been an engaged resident of Lacombe since 2004 and has contributed extensively to the community through longstanding volunteer service. She places strong value on civic participation and views volunteerism as essential to building a healthy, connected community. Her volunteer work has included many years of coaching local sports, mentoring as a Big Sister, and serving in numerous leadership roles within her church. She has also held executive and board positions with a variety of community organizations. Mayor Hibbs continues her commitment to service today as an active Rotarian and frequently volunteers her time to support local events. She encourages community groups to reach out whenever she may be of assistance.
Mayor Hibbs is a dedicated lifelong learner who continuously seeks opportunities to enhance her knowledge and broaden her perspective. She engages in ongoing professional and personal development through reading, coursework, and participation in leadership committees, forums, seminars, and conferences.
Recognizing the importance of being present in the community she serves, Mayor Hibbs regularly attends local events and values meaningful engagement, both in person and through social media. She welcomes invitations from schools, seniors’ residences, and community organizations.
Before her election to City Council in 2017, Mayor Hibbs served seven years as an elected School Board Trustee with STAR Catholic Schools, including time as Board Chair. The structural similarities between School Board governance and City Council operations have strengthened her leadership skills, particularly in the areas of governance and decision-making.
Mayor Hibbs is currently employed in seniors living administration, a role she considers deeply rewarding. She views the opportunity to serve seniors as an honour—one that extends far beyond the responsibilities of a job.
