Why Lacombe is Alberta's Sweet Spot ™
The Lacombe Economic Development Board is celebrating 20 years of board activity by launching a new brand for economic development: Lacombe - Alberta's Sweet Spot ™.
The new brand identity is the result of many meetings and discussions with Lacombians over the past months. Several brand possibilities were generated and debated at length, but the reasons why the board decided to commit to using “Alberta’s Sweet Spot” as its calling card for economic development can be summarized by the following insights into the development of the brand:
- In the world of sports, athletes know that the “sweet spot” of a baseball bat, tennis racquet or golf club is the point of contact that produces maximum performance. The new branding strategy symbolically positions Lacombe as the best location in Alberta for establishing high-performance business operations.
- It’s also notable that Lacombe is a very active community, as demonstrated by the excellent trail system, recreational facilities and our strong sense of community pride generated through participation in many volunteer organizations. Using the term “sweet spot” suggests a higher level of activity.
- As a hub of regional activity, Lacombe combines an excellent business environment with outstanding lifestyle options and opportunities that might just be the envy of other communities of our size. The combination of these two factors may make our residents say that something that is so outstanding is actually “sweet.” When teenagers exclaim, “Wow, that's sweet!” they’re delivering a very positive compliment.
- The term “sweet” can also apply to something that is held dear to us, that has an adorable quality. This is also true of Lacombe, a community that takes great pride in appearances, as evidenced through the lovingly restored historic downtown district and Lacombe’s enthusiastic participation and impressive showings in the national Communities In Bloom program.
- Lastly, the “sweet spot” brand underscores the sense of optimism and opportunity that emerges thanks to the high level of confidence that our community shares. As we move into the future, we look to opportunities that will provide long-lasting and sustainable growth.
