Murals
- Theme 2 began during the summer of 2009 and continues in 2010 with over
12,000 square feet of murals being painted depicting Lacombe in the
1930's. The program kicked off in May 2009 and we expect this theme to be
completed during the next 5 years. 2010 will see added detail to our murals theme which we are all extremely proud. Mural Theme 2 now underway.
- Bring
your friends and take a tour! Better still, why not plan a weekend
mural extravaganza including Lacombe, Stony Plain and Legal, Alberta! Stony Plain has 27 life-size murals depicting their heritage
and a six foot statue of Sherif Israel Umbach, a must see! www.stonyplain.com
Once you are done, then head over to Legal who have been sought out by
many a visitor from around the world to view the 28 murals that reflect
their strong cultural heritage www.town.legal.ab.ca Visit the unique downtowns of these communities, stop for a latte and enjoy Alberta's heritage!
Beautification
- In 2010 we have introduced a friendlier, new and improved rain barrel program which promises to be a huge success! Soon our committee will be meeting to discuss all the activities 2010 will bring.
Our past accomplishments include:
- In 2009 the committee purchased replacement
historical banners
- We partnered with Terrace Ridge School and 4
of their students painted totem poles on 4 telephone poles along C
& E Trail.
- We partnered with LA Youth who ran a summer
art class. Our committee purchased supplies for the students who made 8
banners for the Town.
- In keeping with the Communities In Bloom theme of environment, landscape, floral, community involvement, urban forestry, heritage, tidiness and turf management, we had eight separate banners designed.
- 15 additional steel garbage bins were painted in 2007, bringing our total number of painted bins to 40 bins. Flowers, buildings and various scenes have brightened up many a back alley.
- Our silhouettes that adorn the street lights at all four entrances to town received a face lift with the hottest color on the market: burnt orange!
- Council approved our submission for a Birth Place Forest Program, which is now located on the east side of Lincoln Park. Any parent from Lacombe can make application to have a tree planted in honour of their newborn.
- 20 walls were painted with murals in the back alley between 50th Street and 51st Street (Theme 1), portraying a variety of buildings and scenes dating back to the period between 1890 and 1910. Click here to see the brochure.
