Toxic / Electronic Waste Roundup
On September 18, 2010, the Town of Lacombe offers residents the opportunity to dispose of hazardous household material at the Town's Infrastructure Services Building (5444 - 56 Ave).
Between 10:00am and 2:00pm, staff will be on hand to accept the following toxic and electronic materials for proper disposal:
  • Paint and painting supplies 
  • Degreasers and other solvents
  • Waste acids and rust removers
  • Alkaline cleaning fluids
  • Old batteries
  • Aerosol containers
  • Materials containing heavy metals such as mercury, lead or cadmium.
  • Electronics: T.V.'s / microwaves / computers

 




Residential Garbage
  • The flat rate is $20.42 per month for residential garbage pickup.
  • The flat rate does not vary with the amount of usage. 

  • Properties with lanes are provided with shared large beige bins for household garbage, which are emptied once per week.
     
  • Properties without lanes are provided with black roll out bins, that should be placed at the end of your driveway by 7 a.m. the day of pickup.
     
  • Care of roll out bins is the responsibility of the resident. Damages incurred due to negligence will be charged to the resident.
     
  • Apartment premises (4 or more units) will be charged $10.21 per unit per month.

Commercial Garbage

 

  Every commercial property is charged a fee for garbage collection and disposal.

 

  • Bins for cardboard only are also available.

  • The minimum commercial garbage charge per month is $37.83.
 
  • An extra pickup is $29.90 per bin.

  • Bins for use during construction are to be arranged through Public Works. Please call Kim at (403) 782-1261.

 

 

Prentiss Transfer Station/Garbage Collection Site

Operated by the County of Lacombe the transfer station is located Southeast of Lacombe on the Prentiss Road (4 miles east on Highway 12 and 2 miles south on Prentiss Road.)

 

Operating Hours:

Monday to Sunday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Closed on Statutory Holidays (New Years Day, Good Friday, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas & Boxing Day)

Accepted Waste:

  • Household Waste (compactor) - No Charge
  • Wood, metal, dry rubble, car wash sump material & concrete.

                            0-499kg         No Charge

                      500-1000kg    $25.00

                      1000+kg        $25.00/tonne

  • Batteries (all types), propane tanks, tires, fluorescent bulbs, used oil, automotive filters, agricultural chemical jugs & antifreeze.  No Charge
  • Hot water tanks, stoves, washers, dryers & dishwashers.  $5.00 Charge
  • Fridges, deep freezes, air conditioners & water coolers that are not certified Freon removed.  $25.00 Charge
  • eWaste and Household Hazardous Waste facility.
  • Compost material, grass clippings and garden waste.

 

Prohibited Waste:

Carcasses, bio-medical waste, grain, seeds, manure, feed, explosives, hot burn barrels and radioactive material.

Spring Cleanup Campaign (May 18 - June 15, 2010)

During the Spring cleanup campaign the Town of Lacombe will provide special refuse pickup for household and yard material that you would not normally place in the garbage bins.

   

Fall Cleanup Campaign (October 12 - 29, 2010)

During the Fall cleanup campaign the Town of Lacombe will provide speacial refuse pickup for household and yard materials that you would not normally place in garbage bins.

  • To prevent unsightly accumlations of waste over a lengthy period, all property owners are requested to set out items for disposal no earlier than October 9, 2010.
  • Please place all items for disposal at the edge of your own property, ensuring that pedestrian and vehicle traffic is not blocked.  Please do not place Fall Cleanup refuse next to or touching the bin used for normal household garbage pickup.
  • All items must be sorted and neatly tied, bundled or bagged.  Trees, brush or limbs can not be more than 10 feet long or they will not be picked up.  Unmanageable / hazardous / construction waste items will not be collected and disposal will remain the responsibility of the property owner.
  • Please have all items out for pick up by October 11, 2010.  Any items placed out after the clean up crew has been in your neighbourhood will not be collected.

Please make separate piles for brush & wood, leaves & garden waste, metals/appliances, electronics.
