Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund

Mission Statement

The Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund is a catalyst designed to build a legacy in perpetuity for the arts that supports the education, awareness, appreciation and development of the arts thereby contributing to the quality of life for residents of Lacombe & Area.

What is the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund?

It is a savings account for the Lacombe and area arts and culture community.  The Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund is a pool of money that is permanently invested, with only the interest ever being spent.  An advisory committee appointed by the Town of Lacombe will work with the community to raise funds and take recommendations for fund disbursements.

The Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund serves two fundamental purposes:

  • To accumulate charitable gifts in a permanent capital fund and thereby provide the community with a sustainable source of funding for the development of the arts in Lacombe and area.

  • To allocate the income from these gifts with such vision and care as to encourage development, education and appreciation of the arts

Will your money stay in Lacombe?

All donations to the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund will be permanently deposited to a dedicated fund, and invested with the larger capital pool of funds held by the Red Deer and District Community Foundation.  All disbursements will be returned to the Lacombe area, upon recommendation of a local advisory board appointed by Lacombe Town Council.

Why do donors give to an endowment fund?

Belief in the community - forever! Knowing that the needs of the community will change with time, and that an endowment fund is a vehicle that helps to   support those changing needs!  With permission all donors will be recognized.

Who can donate to the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund?

Anyone can donate to the foundation. Cheques are payable to the Lacombe Arts Foundation and tax receipts will be issued for any charitable donations of $20 or more.

What kinds of projects could receive funding from the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund?

The Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund was established in 2005 and is in its early stages of accumulating capital.  The initial focus of the fund will be to support emerging youth artists.  Currently there are two $250 awards given to local student exhibitors at the Lacombe Art Exhibit & Sale.  As the fund grows and annual allocations become available a number of arts initiatives could be supported, including but not limited to:  seed funds for new cultural initiatives, bringing recognized artists to the community, youth and adult scholarships, funding for cultural facilities, educational programs for the arts, and public art.

New in 2008

An annual $1200 grant has been created to support the artistic development of individual artists whose primary residence is located in Lacombe, Alberta and the surrounding district for specific training or development.

Why is the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund invested with the Red Deer and District Community Foundation?

The Red Deer and District Community Foundation exists to support charities whose work helps make Central Alberta a better place to live.  In essence the Foundation serves as the banker and investor for the funds raised in the community.  Lacombe is one of five central Alberta communities that has established its own endowment funds with the Foundation.  Other communities include Olds, Sylvan Lake,  Elnora and Big Valley.

Established in 1997, the Red Deer Community Foundation is a Public Foundation registered with the Canada Revenue Agency.  The work that the Community Foundation does results from the combined generosity of area residents, businesses and organizations that utilize the foundation's services to maximize their charitable giving and build charitable legacies.  Guided by its core values of Stewardship, Pro-activity, Partnerships, Volunteerism, and Empowerment, the Red Deer and District Community Foundation continues to grow - connecting people who care with charities offering programs that make our communities healthy and vibrant!
